SickKids and Tailored Training

I support professional development in knowledge translation (KT) and implementation science (IS) through a mix of established workshops offered at SickKids and custom training designed for organizations, teams, and networks.

Whether you’re looking to build a foundational understanding of implementation science, strengthen KT planning skills, or support your team in using evidence more effectively, I can adapt the content to fit your sector, audience, and goals — from a single session to a multi-day program.

Current workshop offerings include:

Implementing evidence-based innovations can be complex. With dozens of theories, models, and frameworks available, it’s often hard to know which to use — and when. PIP introduces participants to the core elements of evidence-based implementation using a structured, evidence-informed, case-based approach. Participants are guided through The Implementation Roadmap© (TIR)—a planning tool grounded in implementation science—by working through a detailed, real-world case example. This case-based format allows participants to explore each phase of the Roadmap, reflect on how the concepts apply in practice, and build confidence in using the TIR approach. Each participant receives a copy of the TIR© Workbook to support future implementation planning in their settings.

Who should attend:
Implementers, researchers, practitioners, community partners, and policy/decision-makers who are new to implementation science or planning to implement a practice, intervention, or innovation in their setting or research.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Describe the five core elements of evidence-based implementation planning.
  • Explain key implementation science concepts, frameworks (e.g., CFIR), and strategies (e.g., ERIC) relevant to health and allied health practice.
  • Understand how The Implementation Roadmap© works as a hands-on tool for planning implementation.
  • Identify common implementation challenges and recognize how structured planning (e.g., using linked tools like the Hexagon Tool or Practice Profile) can support better outcomes.
  • Reflect on their own implementation experiences and consider future opportunities to apply the TIR© in their work settings.

While the workshop is not designed for participants to develop their own implementation plans, it lays a strong foundation for applying evidence-based implementation practices post-workshop, which will require an iterative process of collaboration with participants’ implementation teams over time.

Format & Time: Two days, virtual (10 a.m. – 4 p.m.)

A well-developed KT Dissemination plan is increasingly required for health research proposals and is essential for maximizing the impact of your research. SKTT™ helps scientists and professionals plan, communicate, and share research beyond academia.

Who should attend:
Scientists (basic, clinical, health services, population health), clinicians, educators, KT specialists, knowledge brokers, and anyone aiming to increase the reach and impact of their research. While health-focused, the content is applicable across various sectors.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Define KT and explain its relevance in your context
  • Plan KT dissemination strategies to share evidence and engage different audiences
  • Use practical KT tools (e.g., KT Planning Template©, KT Game©)

In addition to public workshops, I design and deliver custom training for organizations, networks, and research teams. This can involve adapting an existing program (PIP™, SKTT) or creating a tailored session that aligns with your sector, audience, and goals — whether you’re a healthcare system, non-profit organization, research team, or policy organization.

If you’re interested in bringing KT or implementation science capacity-building to your group, please don’t hesitate to contact me to discuss options.
